You guessed it… Weird, Wacky news
April 14, 2008
It’s been a while, but it’s back! As the world turns, some people just never learn.
OUCH
Seattle, WASHINGTON
A 20-year-old man shot himself in the groin early Sunday while trying to hide a shotgun down his pants, Seattle city police said. A news release did not describe the injury except to say that it was “serious.”The victim was being treated at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. His injuries were not expected to be life-threatening, medical officials told police. Officers responded to the 700 block of North 24th Avenue about 1:30 a.m. Sunday. They found the victim on the side of the road. He had fired two rounds from the double-barrelled weapon, police said. Police were continuing to investigate after they recovered the shotgun and an additional firearm reported stolen at the house where the shooting took place.
Money shot?
Miami, FLORIDA
Three men dressed in black walked into Platinum Gold strip club on the city’s southeast side Sunday night and started shooting exotic dancers with paintball guns, police said. The men, along with an afternoon-shift dancer and another woman who had been arguing with a manager when the shooters showed up, all fled the club at 3675 S. Federal Hwy before police got there about 11:15 p.m. Officers rushed in to discover three dancers, ages 28, 44 and 51, peppered with pink paintballs and covered in circular bruises. Surveying the rest of the club, they noticed several broken, paint splattered mirrors and a bar top stained in a patchwork of flamingo splotches. City paramedics treated the dancers in the club. After investigating, police came to suspect the three men paintballed the dance club on behalf of the afternoon-shift dancer, who became angry after the manager refused to exchange her “funny money” for cash earlier in the day, police said.
Judge sues
Brooklyn, NEW YORK
It’s the mother of all slip-and-fall cases. A politically connected Brooklyn judge plans to file a $1 million lawsuit against the city after slipping on a just-mopped floor in his own courthouse, the Daily News has learned. Supreme Court Justice Jack Battaglia - who hears civil cases and earns $136,000 a year - is even targeting the courthouse cleaning lady who wielded the mop, according to legal papers. The judge fractured his knee in the Nov. 9 2007 tumble outside room 452 and was forced to undergo surgery and physical therapy. As a result of the claim, city lawyers have asked Battaglia, who routinely heard similar cases against the city, to remove himself from all cases involving the city, courthouse sources said . City lawyers said they could not discuss the case.
“Sickening” crime
Adelaide, AUSTRALIA
A nervous thief who threw up while fleeing a hold-up last year has been jailed after police matched his DNA with a pool of vomit left at the crime scene. AAhmed Habib Jalloul, 20, was found guilty of aggravated robbery in the District Court in Adelaide earlier this month for his involvement in the robbery of the Kensington Gardens post office in April 2007. The court was told Jalloul had vomited “out of fear” outside the post office before fleeing in a stolen car with two accomplices and $3700 in cash - and forensic analysis of the vomit matched Jalluol’s DNA.
