Carnival 2008 starts tonight!

Carnival 2008 kicks off tonight with the annual jump-up and opening of the Festival Village.
Tonight’s jump-up will mark the official opening of Carnival 2008 and the opening of the Festival Village. Bands and revelers will be on the street tonight as they make their way towards the Festival Village where the key will be handed over to the Lt. Governor to signify the official start of the 2008 Carnival season.
Though not 100 per cent complete, the Festival Village now has stadium seating with ATM’s and police holding cells. The booths in the village will be stocked with drinks, and the smell of BBQ grills will fill the air. The first local show will be held on Friday night and is entitled King of Kings. Here all past road march and calypso kings will grace the stage in a competition to see who is the ultimate king of carnival.
The first international show takes place on Saturday night with R&B sensation Keyshia Cole and Soca Queen Destra out of Trinidad & Tobago along with Ziggy Rankin also from T&T and WCK hailing from Dominica. Revelers are reminded to be on their best behaviors like always, as the law will be enforcing zero-tolerance on violators.
