Prominent witnesses to be heard in Top Cop Trial

April 17, 2008

According to judge Rob Goosens, the case against Police Chief Commissioner Derrick Holiday during yesterday’s first hearing was suspended for an indefinite time (August/September) as he first wants to hear some very prominent witnesses before the trial continues.

Amongst the six witnesses are Justice Minister David Dick, Lt. Governor Franklyn Richards and former Lt. Governor Dennis Richardson.

Holiday is suspected of being involved in signing 43 forged Immigration documents between April and August 2004 and violating the Federal Ordinance on Admittance and Expulsion (LTU) between October and December 2006. Further he is suspected of forgery of documents between February 2004 and June 2007 to obtain a rent allowance from the Central Government to which he was not entitled.

Holiday’s lawyer, Joeri Essed, announced that he would be pleading to have the prosecutor’s case against his client declared inadmissible since the principles of “Fair Trial” had been violated.
