Still no signs of Leta Lynn Cordes
April 18, 2008

Search efforts for missing U.S. tourist Leta Lynn Cordes heightened recently with the arrival of a specialized search team and dogs, none which has been funded by her family.
A specialized search team of dogs, handlers and others received the go-ahead from the Netherlands Antilles and French governments almost a week ago to conduct their searches here under the support of local authorities. Cordes has been missing since January 11 after having an argument with her husband.
Attorney-at-law J. Michael Sheldon said that not a cent of this costly venture was being financed by Frank Cordes or any other family member. Instead, he said close friends of Leta Lynn Cordes had been footing the bill out of their own pockets or through donations. “None of the money for this investigation has come from the Cordes family,” wrote Sheldon in a press release.
Frank Cordes could not be reached for comment. Since Leta’s disappearance, there have been several calls from various sections of the community to step up efforts to find her. The St. Maarten Tourist Bureau ran damage control at the onset to prevent suggestions that the island had its own “Natalee Holloway case.”
The search team has started its search in Dutch St. Maarten, but has not yet shown any results. Team members have begun moving their search to French Saint Martin. The reward for information about Leta Lynn Cordes and the conviction of her killer or those responsible for her missing has been raised to US $75,000.
