Sector Health Care urges parents to vaccinate children
April 29, 2008
Although Sector Health Care Affairs (SHCA) wrapped up its vaccination campaign last Saturday, Health Commissioner Maria Buncamper-Molanus called on parents to ensure that their children’s vaccinations are up to date.
Vaccination week awarnness activities started in the week of April 19 and concluded on April 26. Parents were reminded to ensure that their children ages 0-17 are up to date with their vaccinations which are necessary in order to reduce the risk of vaccine-preventable diseases.
Parents were told that they could visit SHCA office in the Vineyard Building during office hours 8:00am to 5:00pm from Monday to Friday to check the vaccination status of their children.
Immunization is a way of protecting children against serious disease.
Every April at an international level, a vaccination week is organised in the Americas. This year it was held under the theme: “Act of Love, Get on Board, Get Vaccinated.”
The Vaccination Week of the Americas celebrated its sixth anniversary this year. Since its inception, almost 200 million individuals had been immunized during the vaccination week. PAHO’s goal this year
was to vaccinate 62 million people. SHCA’s aim was to promote general information and to stimulate the participation of parents in the vaccination programme so as to get more children on board as an act of love.
