61 functions still needed to be filled in St. Maarten
May 6, 2008
As the train chugs along for Country St. Maarten, a total of 61 critical functions within the several Ministries of future country St. Maarten still need to be filled.
Of these 61 functions, priorities have been set that will be the main target of the recruitment mission of the Executive Council in the Netherlands. A delegation comprising three sector directors and three support staff headed by Commissioner of Personnel Affairs Maria Buncamper-Molanus will travel to the Netherlands on May 14 to attend the Passat Recruitment Days 2008 at the World Trade Centre in Rotterdam May 17-18. Passat is an organization comprising Antillean and Aruban students in Holland who took the initiative to organize the career fair.
National Alliance (NA) Councilman George Pantophlet asked the Island Council if they were sure that this trip to Holland wasn’t actually a means to find candidates to fill the vacancies. Commissioner of Personnel Affairs Maria Buncamper-Molanus said the focus of the recruitment mission would be on St. Maarten students and young professionals. “The credentials of the candidates will be checked and the candidates will be interviewed by a committee comprising of two or three sector directors supported by personnel of the Personnel Department,” according to the Commissioner.
In case no Antilleans or Arubans are found to fill the vacancies, Buncamper-Molanus said Dutch candidates will be considered. The Commissioner also added that 90 per cent of the critical vacancies had been advertised throughout the Antilles.
