May 30, 2008

Simpson Bay Bridge Can we breathe a sigh of relief? Well, maybe just for one week.
A well needed repair of the Simpson Bay Bridge will take place on Monday, June 9. The lift deck, bearings and struts of the bridge will be repaired and replaced. Motorist and residents in the area can breathe a sigh of relief as the bridge will have to remain closed for about a week. At least one bridge opening will occur every other day until June 16 if necessary.

The bridge will then remained closed until Sunday, June 22. After this, the once every other day opening will resume until the work is completed on June 28. Days and opening hours will be announced soon to the public. Road traffic may be occasionally obstructed for short periods during the repairs, which will mostly take place at night. Simpson Bay Lagoon Authority Corporation (SLAC) advices captains to decide whether their vessel will stay in the lagoon or on the bay during the repair period when the bridge cannot open. Vessels can continue to use the Sandy Ground Bridge.
