SLAC urges owners to register boats

July 1, 2008

Vessels anchored, moored, docked, stored or in repair in the Simpson Bay Lagoon, the bay or the surrounding lands will have to be registered according to a new law being drafted by the Simpson Bay Lagoon Authority Corporation (SLAC).All companies under the jurisdiction of SLAC and the Bridge Fee and Harbor Fee Ordinances will be visited to ensure that their vessels are insured. Owners, captains and dock masters have been urged by the SLAC to provide all necessary information when asked. Boat owners and/or captains are also requested to present all corresponding vessel documents to the SLAC office at the Simpson Bay Police Station.

Local boat owners were also told to follow these procedures, in order to be registered as a local vessel. They are also appealing to those that use the lagoon, and live in or around it safe and clean, free from any crime, contamination or pollution.

Meanwhile, the three daily bridge openings have remained the same until further notice. The times were supposed to change because of repairs being done to the bridge, however the usual opening times 9:30am, 11:30am and 5:30pm remain in effect.
