Garfield and the Do-It-Yourself Spa

July 2, 2008

Yes, there is a do-it-yourself spa just off the St. Martin coast and Garfield will get you there.

It’s off to Tintamarre! After a cruise from Simpson Bay to Marigot passing Fort St. Louis Marina, Happy Bay, the idyllic Friars Bay beach, and Grand Case with a stop at the pristine Creole Rock, you’ll blast off around the point and take a detour through the picturesque Anse Marcel where yachts quietly lay at anchor. Wilderness then follows, where Atlantic Ocean rollers make landfall to the delight of local surfers. With Tintimare now in sight you head straight for the beach. Tucked into the calm Northern corner you anchor stern-to the beach, in waist deep water, making the beach easily accessible for all ages.

Tintamarre beach is stunning. White sand surrounded by clear turquoise waters welcomes you for the day. This small French Island is completely uninhabited, and you are guaranteed of being “away from the crowd”.

Natural occurring clay deposits are unique to Tintamarre. This mineral rich mud is available for your own personal “do-it-yourself” spa treatment. Apply liberally and then bask in the sun to dry. Feel the skin exfoliating when you rinse in salt water. Re-discover your youthful looks after just one application.

Then there’s lunch followed by a few more stops typically with brief stops to areas such as Bay Rouge, La Samana, Long Bay and an interesting perspective of all the Dutch Side hot spots from the water: Maho, Sunset beach and Bamboo Bernies, just a stone throw away.

Your skipper Captain Bruce Hancock, a native South African, has been chartering the Caribbean waters for decades. He even built his first Fun Cat right here on St Maarten described and proved to be everything he imagined the perfect small day charter boat should be: Safe, unsinkable (with floatation foam injected into the hull), stable (to avoid passenger’s sea sickness), very fast (50 mph to reach the secluded spots and providing more time for shore enjoyment), environmentally correct (twin 115hp four stroke engines with low emissions, low fuel consumption and low noise levels).
