Temporary Relief Measures on Utilities bills

The local electricity company on Dutch St. Maarten, GEBE has announced that residents will receive a 6% reduction on their electricity bills at the end July-08 while business will be entitled to an additional reduction of the fuel clause on water that is charged only to non-residential accounts. The utilities company hopes to maintain the fuel clause relief on water as long as oil prices remain at record high levels.
This temporary relief is said to be for a couple of months. According to a press statement, the Managing Directory of GEBE says “We will have caerfully monitor our operational expenses and the investment requirements during the period of this relief, to ensure viability of the company”.
