ArkeFly drops three flights
September 12, 2008
WILLEMSTAD/RIJSWIJK – Apart from the loss of leased aircrafts, ArkeFly also drops these next three weeks’ Wednesday flights. This is because on of ArkeFly’s Boeings 767 is going to be serviced during that period.ArkeFly uses the least busy months for servicing her aircrafts, confirms spokesperson Arjan Leenhouts. Other airline companies do the same. Passengers that are booked on the September 17 and 24 and October 1 flights, will be put on other flights. The company has stopped with bookings on these flights for quote some time already.
Actually, the sudden loss of the Spanish airline company Futura, from whom ArkeFly leases small aircrafts, has little consequences for the ArkeFly’s flights between Amsterdam and the Antilles and Aruba and also other destinations in the Caribbean. “It has no longer any influence on the flights of the next days.”
Due to the busy summer season and to meet the big demands for medium-range vacations, ArkeFly leased two aircrafts from Futura. ArkeFly didn’t know about Futura’s financial problems till last Sunday evening. That’s when the aircrafts were grounded. The negative and false publicity around this matter went down the wrong way. Radio Direct had said among others that ArkeFly lets her pilots work longer than permitted. “Even though the aviation authorities permitted that, we would still not do it”, says Leenhouts. Besides, the company emphasizes being sound financially.
It’s true that the flights are not full at this moment, but for the time being, the company holds on to the intended flight increase for the winter season; a sixth weekly flight effective November 3 and daily flights to Curacao effective December 18.
