Subject: Las Gauchos

Judy:
I have noticed some people have praised Las Gauchos restaurant as being good. The first time I went there I said I would never go back. The food was so so and way over priced for the quality and what you received. I relented and went back and now I know I was right the first time and will never go back. It doesn’t compare with Pineapple Petes for example. I always wished they had a good restaurant in the resort. Oh well maybe some day. Ihave been an owner for ten years weeks 8 & 9 and I have just retired and sold one of our weeks. The second week we will keep and bank it every second year and travel. Our beautiful Island is now too busy. Regards, Keep up the good work. Clarence Mercer

Dear Judy,

I would like to reply to Debbie and Mike Greenspan’s letter from June 5, 2008. I too found the prices of extra nights at the Pelican to be ridiculously high (around $200 for a studio). The answer that was
given me when I asked why the change was that the owners were getting upset that single nights were able to be rented so cheaply. This makes no sense at all. I can understand a higher rate to non owners but owner rates should remain low to encourage rentals of empty rooms, especially in August. I ended up renting a 2 bedroom at the Atrium through Expedia for $146 a night for 2 nights! Eileen Sepesi

Judy’s Response: It is the owners who deposit their weeks with the Resort to rent that are concerned as the amount they receive from the rental is very low. In order to have owners give up their weeks to the rental department they need the funds to be more in line with the cost to pay the AMF.

I just wanted to let you know that the Exchange system at Pelican has gotten worse and worse over the years. I have been an owner since 1984 and only in the past 3 years have I ever had any problem with exchanging. For instance, for the past 8 yrs I have been exchanging one of my weeks for week 47 or 48 and Pelican is not busy at that time. The real High season doesn’t start for another 2 weeks and the beach is always pretty empty. The run-a-round you get from Interval Services is ridiculous for Pelican Owners. They tell me the reason units aren’t available is that owners are not notifying them that they are not going to use their unit.

I find that hard to believe that all those units do not list them.
My guess is that this Interval service is giving these units to travel agents or some other site at a much higher price. As owners we should have first choice. We pay enough in maintenance fees to get something out of them. I feel for the staff at the front desk, because I see that their hands are tied and that they cannot help out or make any changes unless they go through Cancun.

Last year I waited almost 3 hours before I was able to get into a room because an elevator wasn’t working. I was travelling with my 87 year old Mother who was in a wheelchair and could not walk up to the 4th floor in the B building. My request was for a 1 bedroom on the beach or in the Marina Bldg. All along they told me they didn’t have anything available, but once the elevator went out of service, they magically found a room in the Marina. Funny thing was one of the members of the board (who was down there for the Dec meeting specifically asked for a studio in the marina months ago, and they told him that nothing was available to him either, he was not a happy camper).

Is there anyway in your newsletters, or at the Directors Meetings, that you could remind owners that they should let Pelican know if they are not going to use their units. My last beef is the outrageous charge of $149.00 to exchange my unit. That is highway robbery. How long does it take a person to look up the available unit on a computer and exchange one week for another. Where is all this
money going? To Cancun? At the end of the day, it costs me more money to exchange this unit plus my maintenance fee then it is to actually just get a travel pkg that includes air/hotel. My suggestion
is give it back to the Pelican staff to oversee the units instead of wasting money on calls to Cancun every two minutes.

PS When will they bring back Marcos to the Beach Bar. The Bar and food isn’t the same since he left.

Timeshare Legislation - there is not a separate time share law, but newly introduced time share rights, which have been incorporated in Book 7 of the Civil Code of the Netherlands Antilles (”Purchase of rights of use in timesharing of real

temporarily use (per week etc) for real estate has been
constituted. It is Federal legislation and therefore
