August 7, 2008

Delta Air Lines today announced Tuesday the addition of seasonal frequencies to its current schedule to seven Caribbean destinations to satisfy the rising demand for warm destinations during the winter season.

Starting Dec. 20, 2008 Delta will add nonstop service from Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to each of the following destinations where it already offers service:

  • Aruba (second daily flight);
  • George Town, Cayman Islands (second Saturday flight);
  • Montego Bay, Jamaica (third daily flight);
  • Providenciales; Turks and Caicos (second Saturday flight);
  • Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (second daily flight); and
  • St. Maarten (second Saturday flight).
“Atlanta has a large and vibrant Caribbean community that will appreciate our new non-stop service.” James Sarvis, director of Delta’s Latin American and Caribbean region and added that customers around the world would also benefit from the connections that would facilitate travel throughout the Caribbean and Latin America.

Recently, American Airlines reduced the number of flights from the US to St Maarten, particularly from New York.

A pleased St. Maarten Tourism Director Regina Labega noted however “we cannot roll out the drums because if anything, what this means iis that we have to intensify our marketing efforts to be able to ensure that we maintain a more favourable position in the region”.
